The Area of Activity of NSC “Institute of Metrology”
NSC “Institute of Metrology” executes the functions of:
1. The Main Сentre of Ensuring the Uniformity of Measurements in Ukraine.
2. The Main Centre of Ukraine of Reference Materials of Composition and Properties of Substances and Materials.
3. The Main Centre of Ukraine of National Service of Universal Time and Reference Frequencies.
4. In NSC “Institute of Metrology” scientific research and experimental-design works on the following programs are conducted:
“The Program of Establishing the National Standards Base of Ukraine”;
“The Program of Establishing the Reference Materials of Composition and Properties of Substances and Materials in Ukraine”.
In the fixed types of measurements National standards are created [Read more], which provide reproducing and storing of units of physical quantities with highest accuracy and transfer the size of these units according to the National calibration schemes. By the Resolutions of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from the 1st of April, 1999, №527 and from the 19th of December, 2001, №1709 the National standards base is included into the National Register of Objects, which are of the national patrimony.
The Institute, on the basis of which the Body of Certification of Production and the National Testing Centre “Metrology”, has been accredited for the right of conducting the measurements in the sphere of the National Metrological Supervision extension, for the right of verification (calibration) of the measurement facilities and for the right of conducting the National Acceptance Testing of the measurement facilities.
Performing the scientific research and experimental-design works in full measure – from researching works to developing the design documentation and production of standards – provide 6 scientific centers, scientific research department of information technologies in metrology, scientific research laboratory of prospective research and strategic development, scientific research laboratory of measuring the mass and related quantities, measuring the dynamic quantities, scientific research laboratory of measuring the discharge, level and volume of the substance, scientific design technological center, scientific experimental production, the relevant functional subdivisions, which make part of NSC “Institute of Metrology”.
Science potential of NSC “Institute of Metrology” – 10 Doctors and 25 Candidates of Sciences, 4 Laureates of State Prizes, the functioning post graduate course and the specialized doctoral council for thesis defense.
By Resolution of the Ministry of Education and Science from 20 July, 2004, NSC “Institute of Metrology” is included into the National Register of Scientific Organizations, which are assigned with the Governmental support (certificate of NB № 00547).
An important state aspect of the activity of NSC “Institute of Metrology” is its cooperation with international and regional metrological organizations such as: General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutions (СООМЕТ) and European Collaboration in Measurement Standards (EUROMET), and performing the “Agreement on Mutual Recognition of the National Standards, Calibration and Measurement Сertificates”, which are issued by National Metrology Institutes (CIPM MRA).
